Will “Superior Foes” End at #15?

Right when we were excited about the possibility that The Superior Foes of Spider-Man would be continuing after the relaunch of Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 3), there seems to be a couple of clouds on the horizon for the series.  Can we all help the series’ sales pick up to push it past cancellation?

The other day the Amazon listing for the second volume of The Superior Foes of Spider-Man was updated to include a new number of issues, from 12 to 15.  This reflects what Nick Spencer told CBR last week, that the series would continue past issue 12, but could also reflect that #15 is the new end for the book.  A typical trade-paperback contains 6 issues, not 9.

Soon after this change, artist Steve Lieber appears on 4Chan and left a post (since removed):

endingat15

“All I’m hearing is a lot of ‘we’ll have to see what the sales do.’  If they keep sliding, we probably are gonna get cancelled at 15.  On the other hand, if we pick up some award nominations, or if comic buyers actually pay attention to all the ‘best of 2013’ lists the book was on, we might get a reprieve.”

While this hasn’t been confirmed to be the real Steve Lieber, but he does have a record of participating on 4Chan.  The book only sold 20,858 issues of #7, after debuting with 61,413 with issue #1.  This is about the number of books that were sold when Scarlet Spider got the axe.  Could this change in the Amazon listing be a reflection that the book will in fact end with issue #15?

Either way, The Superior Foes of Spider-Man is an excellent book and deserves as much support as it can get.  Please check out the book if you haven’t already done so and encourage your friends to do so as well.  It is a book that deserves to live well past #15 and it needs the support to do so!
