Brian Michael Bendis’ Tumblr has been a gold mind for new information recently, and is usually a good place to experience some of his signature glib humor, insights, favorite art, and advice on the comic industry. Yesterday, Bendis went on a bit of a tear, as he commonly does, and answered a ton of fan questions. The final question was posed by a commenter that uses the moniker theholygeekdom, one of Bendis’ most frequent commenters, and he/she asked this question:
This should come as no surprise, as Bendis has been saying this for quite awhile, but it does come as the first official announcement that the project is moving forward. Outside of this message there is no additional information on who will be doing art on the book, with Sara Pichelli doing the art on the original Spider-Men. Pichelli has been hard at work with Bendis on Guardians of the Galaxy, so perhaps David Marquez, the current artist on Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, will take over the duties.
However, since Peter Parker visited the Ultimate universe the last time, I figure this time Miles Morales will be visiting the 616 universe to meet his alternate self, a person whose existence was teased in the Spider-Men #5. I also imagine that he will be bringing the imprisoned Mysterio back to the 616 universe so that he can rejoin Peter Parker’s rogues gallery (hats off to Marvel for not immediately undoing this bit of continuity).
Could this mean that we could get one of the current Amazing Spider-Man artists to tackle the new Spider-Men series? Will another version of Spider-Man get in on the fun with Miles and Peter? Only time will tell but the art and story, but that hasn’t stopped fan speculation.
Many believed that Miles would be permanently relocating into the 616 universe during the Cataclysm: Ultimates’ Last Stand but his time in the 616 universe was short-lived. Instead he and Ultimate Reed Richards broke into the Baxter Building on fact-finding mission and set off the building’s self-defense system. Miles was only able to escape when he distracted the robots to chase after the Superior Spider-Man.
Perhaps an apology is in order.
