Silk is getting an ongoing series, Spider-Gwen‘s first cover is out, and Spider-Man 2099 travels to the year 2099 – insert “Back to the Future” joke here. Here are the highlights of the “Spider-Verse” panel at New York Comic-Con today (via CBR), moderated by Nick Lowe.

Silk

Starting February 2015, Robbie Thompson and artist Stacey Lee will be bringing Cindy Moon to Silk, joining  Spider-Gwen and Spider-Man 2099 as monthly solo books alongside Amazing Spider-Man.

Thompson was excited to get the webbed weaver into her own ongoing, “I’m super-thrilled to be a part of the Marvel Universe, and specifically this character.” Thompson credited Slott and Ramos for creating Silk as a “fully formed” character, with her own part in a wider universe. Thompson also teased that the book will shed light on Cindy’s life before Amazing Spider-Man #3, “from bite to bunker.”

Spider-Gwen

Yesterday we reported that Gwen’s Spider-Woman will get her own ongoing by the creative team of Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez (guests on our podcast) –  and at today’s “Spider-Verse” panel, Lowe revealed the official title for the book: Spider-Gwen. Launching in February 2015, Spider-Gwen will continue the story presented in Edge of Spider-Verse #2, and apparently she has made it back to her own universe.

Spider-Gwen-1-Cover-Robbi-Rodriguez“We obviously ended that first story with a pretty crazy cliffhanger, Gwen comes back from whatever remains of ‘Spider-Verse,’ and she decides to become a superhero. Now that she’s chosen to define who Spider-Gwen is, what does that do to Gwen Stacy? Those two things are very intertwined.  The world has decided she’s a criminal,” Latour added, “and her father is now caught in the middle: His black-and-white convictions are in a real gray area.

“For her father, he didn’t quite give her the great power equals great responsibility speech, but he essentially gave that speech, and now he has to be put to the test,” Latour continued. “Both of those characters will challenge each other’s assertions.”

“I wanted something very modern, and get in the head space of what Gwen would do if she was in this superhero world,” Robbi Rodriguez said of the costume worn by Gwen Stacy. He noted that Gwen would be “rocking some crazy gear.”

Slott highly praised Jason and Robbi, saying Edge of Spider-Verse #2  was one of the best books he’s read this year.

“You asked for it,” Lowe said, thanking the fans for their support, and the huge response from Edge of Spider-Verse #2.

Spider-Man 2099

Next week sees the return of the original 2099 artist, Rick Leonardi, just in time to help Peter David send Miguel back to 2099. It seems the future isn’t safe for Miguel O’Hara – ANY version of him.

“Basically, the plan is to guest star every other Spider-Man 2099 who’s currently running around the Marvel Universe, and kill them all,” David said. “What’s going to be happening is Spider-Man is going to be encountering other versions of himself, and discovering that Morlun is after them.SM20992014006-34db1

“The really hysterical thing is Tyler Stone was responsible for sending him back to the modern day – he’s patting himself on the back because he thinks Spider-Man is gone…  he sent him back 15 minutes ago. Then he comes back, and he’s like, ‘What the hell? We just got rid of him!’

“He came back, and he brings people back with him” David continued. “So Stone is not too happy.” Those people with O’Hara are “Lady-Spider” and “six-armed spider-man” – who will try to help Miguel sort through the Spider-Verse madness coming his way.

Spider-Man 2099 #6 and #7 have been confirmed to take place in the future, and coincide with “Spider-Verse”.
