Just when you thought it was safe to go on the internet Marvel releases an image and destroys it, leaving you hopeless, confused, and forever changed.  Perhaps this is hyperbole but Marvel just keeps on releasing more and more images to tie in with their “Secret Wars” event next summer and they couldn’t be more of a tease.

A few weeks back we got an email with an image that suggested that Marvel would be returning to its “Civil War” storyline and that had us scrambling to figure out what it all meant.  In the time since then, Marvel has released over a dozen teases of varying excitability but this time they’ve outdone themselves.

A couple of days ago Dan Slott tweeted that about a future Spider-Man freakout moment and changed his Twitter logo to be an image of Peter and MJ’s wedding, from Amazing Spider-Man Annual #20:

Today Marvel released this image by Adam Kubert and to honor Dan Slott we are going to promptly freak out.

That’s right, the moment that would never happen… The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows.  While this is likely to please the fans who dislike 2006’s “One More Day,” I can’t imagine that this will be the ongoing direction for the book, no matter how much I might want it to be the truth.

The upcoming “Secret Wars” storyline has been teased to be a story ala “Spider-Verse” where characters from all the different universes and timestreams battle it out for some reason or another.  Joe Quesada, while not the Marvel’s EIC anymore, still occupies a strong voice at Marvel and has said that the marriage was a mistake.  Bringing back his marriage to Mary Jane and giving him a yet unidentified child would be a complete 180 for a company who has found a great deal of success with their Spider-Man titles as of recent.

That said, it is very fun to see the return of the child that Peter and Mary Jane glimpsed briefly during “One More Day.”  In that storyline Mephisto teased Peter and Mary Jane with fleeting images of the child they would have had if they had gotten married.

While there is no solid word on what this image is and there is certainly no limit to the speculation, we here at Superior Spider-Talk speculate that this might be Peter’s B-story during the upcoming “Secret Wars” event.  We will be sure to update you as soon as we know anything more.
