“Secret Wars” hasn’t even ended yet and we’ve only just gotten the briefest glimpse of what the All-New All-Different Marvel world will look like and Marvel is already announcing the next big/small events that will be dominating the comic book landscape in 2016.

Spider-Women_1_Yasmine_Putri_CoverCritics and readers alike have heaped a ton of praise upon all the female-lead comics that are part of the Spider-Man and friends line. This has led to incredible growth for Marvel’s sales across an increasingly diverse comic marketplace, so Marvel has decided to give readers and critics more of what they want. Starting in early 2016 Marvel’s SilkSpider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman books will be crossing over to tell a three part story entitled “Spider-Women.”

For those of you thinking, “That sounds an awful lot like Spider-Men,” well, you’d be right. Outside of the fairly obvious titling conceit, the story will also focus on the dimension hopping antics of Jessica Drew and Cindy Moon as they find themselves stranded in Gwen Stacy’s alternate reality. Meanwhile, their Earth 65 counterparts (that’s the versions of them from Spider-Gwen’s universe) have begun terrorizing the city of New York in their original universe. You know, just your average weekend in the Marvel universe.

Just like last year’s “Black Vortex” crossover event, which saw the Guardians of the Galaxy and All-New X-Men titles crossing over, “Spider-Women” will start with an initial “Alpha” issue before going into the crossover in each of the three books and then conclude with an additional “Omega” issue. This means that the books will continue to be written by their ongoing authors, though no word has been released about who will be writing the “Alpha” or “Omega” issues.
