We all wondered which established characters might show up in Spidey’s first MCU film, and now we have confirmation that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his Tony Stark roll for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

From The Hollywood Reporter, “The movie [Civil War] establishes a key relationship between Tony Stark/Iron Man and Parker, and Homecoming will continue that thread.”

We used to wonder if we would ever get to see Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man interact with Spider-Man, and now he’s the first confirmed Homecoming cameo; although, Marvel hasn’t even confirmed if this is a cameo or a full supporting role (and some fans wonder if Tony Stark might only appear in flashbacks – seeing as how we don’t know how Civil War ends) but regardless… most of us will be happy to see Stark and Parker in the same room at all. Just last week Robert revealed that there was no contract yet in place:

That clip above makes me really excited to see Tony in “Homecoming”… if a little nervous to see him share any scenes with Aunt May…

The news comes on the heels of a blitz of new information for Homecoming, including casting for many of Peter’s classmates and friends. Let’s recap the casting news so far:

marisa-tomei-2016-vanity-fair-oscar-party-2f7596441e6b15ad84e3ea4abcb6c547bMarisa Tomei was the second person cast in the not-yet-titled Spider-Man: Homecoming movie.

Having been a successful actress for over three decades, most will know Marisa Tomei from her many diverse roles over the years: including My Cousin Vinny and Anger Management, all the way to a cameo in The Simpsons and her recent role in Crazy Stupid Love.

The casting choice provoked criticisms from fans that the 50 year-old actress was too young to play the Parker Aunt. Although she is 16 years younger than Sally Field‘s recent portrayal of Aunt May – recent successful interpretations of May have been significantly younger, notably the Ultimate and Spectacular versions (television).

zendaya-coleman-at-boris-and-nicole-show-in-los-angeles-07-27-2015_1Singer/actress Zendaya Coleman was the next casting announcement – her arrival starting much debate over her role in the film, and what character she plays.

Zendaya is well known among the younger Disney Channel crowd, with lead roles in Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover. She also has established her career as a young singer in such singles as “Replay,” and “Something New.”

It is unclear if Coleman is playing an established character in the form of a brief roommate Peter had in the comics, or if this is a new character entirely. We DO know “…she will play a character named Michelle. Nobody is providing details on whether this is the romantic lead opposite Peter Parker, but it doesn’t sound like it…” (Deadline)

Apple+Store+Soho+Presents+Meet+Filmmakers+o2B6QspdByplTony Revolori was announced to be joining the cast as an unspecified, but central character in a now familiar trend for this movie’s casting news.

Revolori has had a short but successful film career in movies such as Dope (2015). Our own film critic (and Spider-Talk Host), Dan Gvozden had high praise for Tony’s performance in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

When news of Tony Revolori being cast first hit the interwebs, speculation flew that he might be playing Flash Thompson. “Revolori will play Peter Parker’s nemesis/enemy at high school, but isn’t a super villain.” (Deadline) That certainly sounds like Flash, or maybe a modern version of him – but only time will tell.

Laura-HarrierActress Laura Harrier is the latest confirmed casting in Homecoming – in a roll only described as “Significant” by Marvel and Sony at the time of this article’s posting.

Laura is best known for her role in One Life to Live as Destiny Evans. She was also in 4th Man Out (an indie comedy) and The Last 5 Years (a musical).

We have absolutely no idea who Harrier will portray. Is she a new character? A new version of someone we have seen before? Liz Allan? Marvel and Sony representatives are not saying yet – but we will update you when so much as a name drops for this last in a long string of exciting castings. She follows the trend of the rest of the cast so far: much younger actresses and actors than we are accustomed to – but with an undeniable talent and spark that seems to be the driving inspiration for Homecoming.

In case you forgot who plays our very own Peter Parker in this new flick – check out Tom Holland himself, talking Spider-Man at the Civil War premiere:

Lastly, any of you who saw other sites reporting Michael Keaton was in talks to play a role in Homecoming – those negotiations ended up leading nowhere, and the actor who previously brought Batman to the big screen will unfortunately not be playing the Vulture or any other Spider-Man villain as was heavily rumored for a few weeks.

As always, stay tuned for more news and updates as they develop! Are you excited about all of the cast so far? Let me know in the comments!
