First bit of big news. It sounds like, after initial talks had stalled, Michael Keaton and Marvel Studios are close to sealing a deal to see him star in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” as the main villain, the Vulture (if rumors are to be believed). It seems like the Oscar-nominated actor just can’t stay away from superhero movies and is in final negotiations to join the film.

635488881348030002-KEATON-BIRDMAN-jy-3313-You may have heard of a little movie called “Batman” directed by Tim Burton back in 1989. That movie really marked a turning point for the superhero genre as it was probably the most successful to be released since “Superman II” nine years prior and is still considered one of the better superhero movies of all time. Twenty-five years later, Keaton starred in “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” which seemingly spoofed his life after a fashion, although his career has been much more successful that of Riggan Thomson.

Now it seems as if he’s returning to the genre for real and the plot that recently leaked anonymously on 4chan is to be believed, he’ll be starring as the long suspected villain, Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. The Vulture. If you want to read the leaked “plot” of the upcoming film, in great detail, click here. None of this has been confirmed and if it is true prepare to be spoiled in a way that might potentially ruin most of the film for you.

The Vulture first appeared in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #2 as Spider-Man’s first superpowered threat. Inventor Adrian Toomes invented a flight suit that granted him enhanced strength and a youthful vitality, an idea that would later be developed in the story “Lifetheft,” which saw the character literally draining the life from his foes in order to stay young. He shared his initial debut with a story about the Terrible Tinkerer, who rumors suggest could also be appearing in the film.

Vulture_001Other less substantial rumors that are circling suggest that it’s possible that none other than the Kingpin may be included in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. The inclusion of the Kingpin in the movie would also be a great tie-in to the television side of the MCU, something that has been sorely missing. Several actors from Marvel’s TV shows have been vocal about the lack of recognition they get in the movies, most recently Chloe Bennet, a.k.a. Quake/Daisy Johnson from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

At the very least, it appears that all signs point to the fact that Michael Keaton will be joining Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May) in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” which swings into theaters July 7, 2017.
