Dan Slott’s Big Lie!

This tweet appeared on Dan Slott’s twitter account on March 12th:

It isn’t atypical of the way Slott conducts himself on Twitter, often teasing forth new ideas and concepts in a way that makes it worthwhile to follow his social media accounts.  That is, after all, where Slott first teased readers that the man in the Green Goblin costume might not be Norman Osborn after all.  This new tweet has brought forth a number of new questions about whether or not readers have all the information they thought they had about Superior Spider-Man.

This past weekend Dan Slott travelled to the London Super Comic Con and engaged in a panel about his work on the book.  Here is the full panel’s audio:

He joked about how the returning Peter Parker would have missed out on a year of pop culture and would use the first three issues of the book catching up on Katy Perry and “What Does the Fox Say?”  He also explained that there would be a huge Spider-Man event coming in the fall that was originally meant to be a story in Superior Spider-Man.

Apparently at the writer’s summit, Slott was ordered by Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso that it would be a told in the new Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 3) instead, with Joe Quesada backing him up with assertions that this would be one of the best Spider-Man stories ever told.  So he replaced that story with the Venom one that we already got.  Here is a quote from him talking about it:

“There’s like a story and you’re going to find out about it soon, as soon as I come back from the UK, the first day out of  the plane I have to do an interview about this Spider-Man thing that’s coming in the fall, this big thing we’ve been building to forever…”

“We only get one shot to do this Spider-Man story.”

“This could be one of the best Spider-Man stories we’re ever going to tell.”

Could these two things be related?  Could this be a story the lie that Dan Slott has been telling?  I assume not, since it was something that was going to be a Superior Spider-Man story and it no longer is, but only time will tell.

What are your thoughts on these teases?
