I guess it is fair to say that writer Peter David, longtime Spider-Man writer and creator of Miguel O’Hara, can rest assured that he’ll continue to have a welcome place in the modern comic book writing community. Fans clamored for him to be attached to a relaunch of Spider-Man 2099 and the Marvel editors granted their wishes and it seems that it was a wise decision. The book’s debut issue went on to sell over 100K copies after debuting on July 9th; the final numbers have not been released yet. 90’s nostalgia is back in full force at Marvel (with new titles like Lobo, Deadpool vs. X-Force, and Deathstroke) and it seems that there is a huge audience for the books.
Its wonderful to see that authors like Peter David are being allowed to continue creating for a company like Marvel. History has shown that few artists and writers can maintain a career in mainstream comics for a long amount of time, but perhaps with fan support and interest many of these classic creators can come back to breathe life not only to ongoing titles but perhaps to books and characters they created. These is especially wonderful news for Peter David who suffered a near fatal stroke last year while on vacation. It was then that his faithful fan base pulled out all the stops to offer support to him and his family when he needed it the most. Congratulations to Marvel and Peter David for successfully bringing back the much beloved Spider-Man 2099.
