Gwen Stacy has become extremely popular thanks to her appearance in the recent “Amazing Spider-Man” films and the introduction of Spider-Gwen. That character’s meteoric rise to popularity began with an appearance as part of the recent “Spider-Verse” arc first showing up in Edge of Spider-Verse #2.

GWENPOOL001Deadpool’s comic book history is less historied than Gwen’s, but since his creation he’s been a huge favorite in the Marvel comics line.. Brought to life by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist/writer Rob Liefeld and first appearing The New Mutants #98 in 1991, he’s been breaking fourth walls ever since. Actually, that’s not true. He didn’t do that until later on… In the meantime, the character has only risen in popularity over the years, most recently due to the upcoming film featuring Deadpool as the titular character.

Earlier this year Marvel performed an experiment and asked: What happens when you take two of the more popular Marvel characters and mash them up to create a new one? You make a buttload of money, that’s what! That, and you get another, even pinker Gwen Stacy running around. Making her debut as a variant cover for Deadpool’s Secret Wars #2 and getting a story as part of Howard the Duck #1, Gwenpool (or Piscina de la Gwen in Español), a combination of Gwen Stacy and Deadpool, quickly became a hit on the cosplay scene.

Now, following her latest appearance in the Gwenpool Holiday Special #1 the Merc-ette with a Mouth is getting her own ongoing title, The Unbelievable Gwenpool, coming to your local comic book shop this coming April.  The title will reunite writer Christopher Hastings and art team of Chifuyu Sasaki and Naoko Kawano (better know together as Guruhiru), who initially introduced Gwenpool to the Marvel Universe with a series of backup stories in the Howard the Duck comic.

The concept of the book will be that Gwenpool comes from a reality more like our own, where superheroes aren’t real, but are instead fictional characters in a line of comic books. So in her mind, none of what happens in the MU is real. No real consequences means no reason to hold back.

The idea has some similarities to the original Deadpool, who seems to know he’s in a comic book, and Superbly-Prime, an alternate reality Kal-El who was the only real super in a world where the rest of the DC heroes were only in comics. For those of you who like Gwen and Deadpool, this new book will be like getting your chocolate stuck in someone’s peanut butter.

Once this comic hits the stands next year it will mark the third ongoing series for Ms. Stacy. Not too shabby for a girl who got dropped off a bridge by Norman Osborn back in The Amazing Spider-Man #121.
