Spider-Man played a key role in the original 2006-2007 “Civil War” crossover event that rocked the Marvel Universe and after last weeks newest “Captain America: Civil War” trailer we know he’ll play some role in the movie as well. Marvel has been slowly releasing teaser images for the upcoming “Civil War II” comic book crossover event featuring heroes such as The Mightly Thor, Black Panther, Old Man Logan and Ms. Marvel (among others) with the tagline “Protect the Future. Change the Future.”

CWIIteaser_SpiderMan2-676x1024Today, the newest image released features none other than our favorite wall-crawler. Interestingly, Spidey’s suit looks more like his classic costume than his All-New All-Different, Parker Industries costume.

The first thing to note is that his eyes and spider symbol aren’t glowing. Additionally, the image shows his mask pulled up, displaying his mouth and nose, a feature that we haven’t seen in his new costume. Lastly, the design of the webs on the suit aren’t reminiscent of the new diamond-pattern that he’s been rocking in the fourth volume of Amazing Spider-Man, but those of his classic suit.

The new Civil War revolves around a new power that will give “them” the ability to see the future and prevent crimes and other negative event from happening. Think “Minority Report”. So this series won’t be dealing with heroes being forced to unmask for the public, as Spider-Man did in the original series. Still, it is interesting that we’ve reached a sequel to “Civil War” and a majority of the major consequences of that event, namely Parker’s unmasking, have been undone; as much as comics present the illusion of change, nothing really changes.

Does this change in costume signal an end to Parker Industries and the status quo we’ve been reading in the fourth volume of the series? Find out this May when the event kicks off with the release of Civil War #0!
