We recently posted about the domain names the Sony had purchased causing even more speculation that one of them might be the official name of the upcoming MCU reboot of the Spider-Man series. Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman, speaking in Las Vegas at CinemaCon, confirmed that this as a fact.

635961069056302160-GTY-520788164-81181180The official title of the next solo Spider-Man movie is indeed Spider-Man: Homecoming. Rothman said that this new title is “…obviously… a high school reference. This movie shows the enduring conflicts at Peter Parker’s roots, saving the world and getting your algebra homework done on time.” It’s also an obvious reference to this film being Spidey’s homecoming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s something we and all the fans are giddy about,” Rothman said. Too true! Along with the confirmation of the title was the reveal of the official logo, which seemed to be a more light-hearted take than the previous two series.

But before young Mr. Parker swings into his first (of many proposed) solo movie(s), he makes his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War, which had it’s red carpet premiere last night in Hollywood, California. Differing reports have said that he is in the movie for anywhere from fifteen to a full thirty minutes. Either way, that’s quite a bit longer than what have origianlly been suspected to be a simple cameo! While a small few have already seen the wall-crawler, a.k.a. Tom Holland, in action, the rest of us will finally be graced with his spectacular amazingness on May 6th when Civil War is released to theaters. Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to hit theaters July 7th, 2017.

Additionally, Sony revealed the placeholder logo for their upcoming Animated Spider-Man film, written by The LEGO Movie creators Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The film doesn’t currently have a director, after the team left the production to direct an upcoming young Han Solo film, but is still slated to be released in 2018.
