Spidey Gets a Retro Upgrade in Homecoming Trailer

If rumors are to be believed, our lovable wall-crawler will be getting a StarkTech upgrade to his suit in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” The upgrade, however, is actually a throwback to the original custome design from his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962). Ryan Pengos (aka AgentM on Twitter), who was lucky enough to attend the CCXP in Brazil, described the trailer that was shown for the Spidey’s first solo foray into the MCU and suggested that while it may have been short, the footage teases Tony Stark’s role in the film and how he helps to further upgrade Peter’s suit, in what promises to be a huge way.

For the first time on the big screen Sipder-man’s suit will finally get the classic underarm webbing! While the original webbing in the comics was purely decorative, it seems like in this case it will be much more functional, allowing Spidey to glide in a way similar a wingsuit. I’m sure this will come in handy in his fights against the Vulture.

As stated above, the webbing under Spider-Man’s arms on his suit were actually part of the original design by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee. It seems that over the years he lost them, but they would occasionally show up again here and there. I, personally, have no problem with the look and often wondered where they webs were while reading certain comics. Sadly, neither Maguire nor Garfield were lucky enough to done the pit ornaments. Tom Holland didn’t have them in “Captain America: Civil War”, it sounds like we’ll get to see an even more Ditko-inspired Spidey costume in theaters this July True Believers!
