Today marks the 84th birthday for one of the greatest visionaries to be a part of the Amazing Spider-Man legacy, John Romita Sr.!    John Romita, dubbed “jazzy’ by Stan Lee, joined on the fledgling Amazing Spider-Man at the age of 36 with the daunting task of continuing the book after the departure of “Swingin'” Steve Ditko in 1966.

Amazing Spiderman V1#047_Page_11_Image_0001His run was far more successful than anyone could ever have imagined, beginning with the reveal of Norman Osborn as the Green Goblin in his first issue.  He and Stan Lee would then go on to create the villainous Rhino and countless other villains.  His contributions to the world of Spider-Man are numerous but most remember him for his iconic cover to Amazing Spider-Man #50 and the introduction of Mary Jane in Amazing Spider-Man #42.

So from all the fans and writers here at Superior Spider-Talk, best wishes on an 84th birthday and many more happy returns of the day! We’ll all be down at the Coffee Bean celebrating with you and the rest of the gang!
