Last week was the annual San Diego Comic-Con and as usual there was another Marvel-hosted panel discussing the future of Spider-Man and several other street-level heroes of Marvel’s New York City. If you would like to watch the panel it is available on YouTube here.
The panel was attended by Spider-editor Nick Lowe, Dan Slott, Mark Waid, Edgar Delgado, and the late-arriving Humberto Ramos. The event was a great deal of fun with a ton of surprise announcements as well as updates on what is going on in the Spider-office. Here is a brief breakdown of all the news announced at the panel.
- Nick Lowe announced that Spider-Verse will really kick off in Superior Spider-Man #32 with a backup story written by Christos Gage and Adam Kubert
- The first cover to “Spider-Verse” by Guiseppe Camuncoli was revealed:
- In Spider-Man 2099 #4 & #5, co-creator Rick Leonardi will be back to do art on the book
- Amazing Spider-Man #7 will feature a team-up between Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel and is a “Spider-Verse” tie-in that introduces The Spider-Man of the Otherworld and Spider-Man of the Captain Britain Corps, Spider-Man UK
- Amazing Spider-Man #8 will feature MC2 Spider-Girl and she’s in for a rough time
- Announcement of the new three-issue mini-series entitled Spider-Verse Team Up with stories from Christos Gage, Roger Stern, Tom DeFalco, Dave Williams, and more
- Announcement of the new three-issue mini-series Scarlet Spiders featuring the return of Ben Reilly! Also featured are Scarlet Spider Kaine and Ultimate Jessica Drew. It is by Mike Costa and Paco Diaz:
- A new “Spider-Verse” themed game is coming to mobile devices called Spider-Man Unlimited
- The panel teased another announcement to be made later in the Women of Marvel panel
As you can see, there were a number of interesting details unveiled this year to help build up the size and scope of the “Spider-Verse” event this fall.
