Could Miles be in the Spider-Man Reboot?! (Probably Not)

Earlier this week, Yahoo Movies interviewed Jon Watts and asked him to comment on the possibility of Miles Morales appearing in the Spider-Man reboot. He said the following:

“I can’t talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much… We’re still writing the story…we haven’t finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows.”

Naturally this quote became a big story on all the usual sites. Who knows what they could put in the script? It could be ANYTHING. Maybe Uncle Ben will be one of the gems for the infinity gauntlet…

I don’t expect Mr. Watts to confirm Ben’s infinity stone status yet – as that would reveal too much. They’re still writing the story after all. When Jon doesn’t confirm that something is true, logically, we can safely assume that the thing in question must be true and he’s teasing us. Oh you’re a coy one, Mr. Watts – but we’re on to you, sly boy.

Fact is, we don’t know a lot right now, and Jon means it when he says “who knows?” Anything is possible – but in truth, that probably isn’t a good reason to get your hopes up. Miles might just end up in the film but the better likelihood, given the reality of how films are made, is that he won’t be. Putting Miles in a film now would mean casting Miles years before he would become a leading figure in the new Spider-Man story. Marvel is going to use Peter Parker as their leading character for as long as they can, they did say that he’s 15 after all.

So for now, let’s all raise our web-shooters in the air and shoot out a web in honor of the eventuality of Miles appearing in a Spider-Man movie, just probably not this new one.
