Cloak and Dagger are coming to the small screen!

Picked up by Freeform (previously ABC family), the new series has been touted as a “superhero love story.” Popular allies to the likes of X-men and Spider-Man alike, Cloak and Dagger offer an interesting look at two of the most dynamic characters of the street level hero roster in form of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson.

From Variety:

“The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”

Fans will also know that Tandy and Tyrone often have struggles involving battles with drug addiction and fighting the darkness within us all – but perhaps more literally in some cases. It is unclear what interpretation of the characters that Freeform will embrace with the show staring the two teens – or how dark they will allow the show to go on a Network aiming for a wide 14-34 age range.

We most recently saw Cloak and Dagger in Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 4) #7 – which saw the two heroes pitted against the wall-crawler and being controlled by Mr. Negative.

No writer was announced to be attached to the series, but Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios have begun looking for writers to helm. Additionally no cast have been announced at this time.
