Two New Captain America: Civil War Trailers Show Spidey in Action

With less than a week and a half left until the wide-release of Captain America: Civil War, it’s a bit surprising that Marvel is still releasing even more footage of Spidey’s MCU homecoming. Not that I’m complaining, but others may feel that we’ve seen more than enough of the webbed wonder, that less is more and that they should leave something for us to be surprised by. Others have even said that they’d wished Marvel hadn’t released any footage or images of Spider-Man before the movie was released.

But it is what it is and unless you completely avoid the Internet it’ll be tough not to see the new footage. Spoiler alert… we have it here, too.

In a new trailer released the other day we see some repeat footage that we’d already seen in other trailers, but then at the :17 mark we get our beloved web-slinger, swinging into action, kicking The Falcon in the gut, catching a mechanized punch and then twisting Bucky’s arm around like it’s no big deal. As a science/tech nerd, he’s more fascinated by the metal arm and less concerned that Bucky just tried to knock his head off. “You have a metal arm? That is awesome, dude!” Parker quips.

It’s apparent that Marvel is staying true to the comics as far as Spidey’s significant strength advantage over most of the other Avengers (at least the one’s we see in this film). Remember, in Spider-Man’s first appearance Peter learned that he could crush a metal pipe “as though it were paper.”

For those of you that find it suspicious that Spider-Man could stop a vibranium punch with what appears to be little effort, know that in the MCU we’ve yet to learn what the Winter Soldier’s arm is made of and many clues make it highly unlikely that it is made of vibranium.

There’s also the interesting comparison between Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and this film in the form of a .gif. Do we think this is an intentional callback? Perhaps not, but it is fun to see all the same:

We also got another trailer that, while significantly lighter on Spider-Action, gives us a better look at the awkwardness of Spider-Man’s first interactions with the heroes he’s been looking up to, especially since he’s being called in to fight them. Check it out here:

Even though they’re on opposing sides, you can see the young Mr. Parker fairly geeking out over meeting Steve Rogers. “Hey Cap. Big fan,” he says while saluting the Red, White and Blue dynamo. If these snippets we’ve seen of Spidey, as well as the glowing early reviews of the movie, are any indication, we’re in for a big treat.

Spider-Man makes his long-awaited debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Captain America: Civil War storms into United States theaters on May 6th.
